Training

Do I need my own harness for the training day?


No, harness and handles are supplied for you to use during your training. If you wish to enter a competition you will need your own handle and equipment.




I can’t make it to the training centre. What can I do?


If you are a horse rider and owner who wishes to get involved, we also run training days and set up courses at most of our events on the day prior to the competition.

It is possible to attend a training day and then enter the same event that weekend as a novice.




Am I able to join the competitions with out taking any training?


You can but you will still need pass a race assessment.

We highly recommend using one of our instructors as they have lots of experience introducing new horses to the sport.




I have a full team and all the equipment and want to compete.


The next stage is to apply to become apart of HBUK by registering your selves, your new team name and colours.




What is a Race Assessment?


The Race Assessment is a safety procedure put in place by HBUK to ensure that every element of the team is competent enough to enter the novice championship safely.

All HBUK teams and individual elements must have a race assessment before they can enter any competition or event.




Where do I get a race assessment?


You can normally get race assessed at an event. This is a particularly easy process if you have attended a training centre first, as you will know what to expect and the instructors there will be able to advise you as to when you are ready.


Even if you have never horseboarded before you can book a set up course which can be held on the day prior to an event. Your race assessment can be a part of this course. It is possible to have a set up course and assessment on the day prior to an event and be competing the following day. If you wish to take this option please contact us to discuss the finer detail.




How much is a race assessment?


A race assessment is £50 for a full team or £20 per element.




How much are the entry fees?


Entry fees are £15 per day per team and this includes your public liability insurance.





Equipment

Where can I buy Horseboarding Equipment?


Harness and handles are available from our online shop. We often have a selection of second hand boards for sale or you can buy new boards from MBS, Trampa or Venom. We are always happy to give advice on which set up will suit you.




What equipment do I need?


To compete in a horseboarding competition you will need,

- An approved Horseboarding Harness with the correct quick release mechanism.
- A wake board style handle with a static rope.

- An approved mountain or all terrain board.

Will the Harness fit any saddle?


The Saddle harness or S.A.L.T harness MK 3 is designed to fit on most English saddles. Exactly how it fits may change depending on the exact design of the saddle.

Getting Involved

How do I get involved?


There are several ways to get involved either as a competitor or volunteer. As a competitor the best way, is to attend our training centre in Chippenham for a weekend course. This is a two-day course which also simulates what you will expect to experience at a Horseboarding Event.

If you wish to attend the south west training center as a board rider you do not need your own board. However you will need your own board to enter a competition.




I am a boarder but don't know any horses or horse riders.


Don’t worry we do. If you are a horse rider with out a boarder, or a boarder without a horse and rider, we will be able to put you in touch with a perspective new team.




How do I apply/register?

1. Individual Registration/application form. – This form is for Horse riders, Horses and board riders. 2. Team Registration/Application form. – This is your chance to apply for your new team name and colours. Try to be inventive with your team name and specific with your team colours. We all ready have over 100 team names and colours registered with HBUK so colour combination and personal Logos can make you stand out from the rest of the teams.

3. Annual Team Declaration – As the name implies this is the annual team registration which must be completed every year. This is an important document the names you put on this form are cast in stone as your team and can only be changed in extreme circumstances.
You are only allowed to substitute one element of your team at any one time. Substitution rules are detailed in the championship rules document available as a PDF on this website. www.horseboardinguk.org




Do I need my own horse?


If you wish to attend and event or the South West Horseboarding Centre as a horse rider you will need your own horse. We do not supply horses for people to ride.
